چکیده
Despite tremendous progress in the understanding and management of hypertension, control of elevated blood pressure (BP) in the general hypertensive population remains unsatisfactory, with only an approximate one third of patients 1 achieving the recommended BP goals. Consequently, cardiovascular risk as a result of target organ damage, notably in the heart, kidneys and brain remain high among majority of 1, 2 hypertensive patients, whether treated or not.

A Standardized Transcutaneous Electric Acupoint Stimulation for Relieving Tobacco Urges in Dependent Smokers
The efficacy of acupuncture in smoking cessation, and its effect on the urge to smoke are unclear. We evaluated the effect of a standardized protocol of transcutaneous electric acupoint stimulations (TEAS) on alleviating the urge to smoke. Ninety-eight smokers were recruited in two double-blind studies. Participants abstained from smoking for 26 h, and were randomized to receive TEAS alternatin...
متن کاملMitochonic Acid 5 (MA-5) Facilitates ATP Synthase Oligomerization and Cell Survival in Various Mitochondrial Diseases
Mitochondrial dysfunction increases oxidative stress and depletes ATP in a variety of disorders. Several antioxidant therapies and drugs affecting mitochondrial biogenesis are undergoing investigation, although not all of them have demonstrated favorable effects in the clinic. We recently reported a therapeutic mitochondrial drug mitochonic acid MA-5 (Tohoku J. Exp. Med., 2015). MA-5 increased ...
متن کاملEffect of monoclonal antibodies on human insulin receptor autophosphorylation, negative cooperativity, and down-regulation.
Three major functional characteristics of the insulin receptor are negative cooperativity, down-regulation, and beta-subunit tyrosine kinase activity. To investigate the inter-relationships among these functions we studied four antibodies to the insulin receptor alpha-subunit. These monoclonal antibodies competitively inhibited 125I-insulin binding to the insulin receptor of human IM-9 and HEP-...
متن کاملLong-lasting alterations in 5-HT2A receptor after a binge regimen of methamphetamine in mice.
The repeated administration of methamphetamine (MA) to animals in a single-day 'binge' dosing regimen produces damage to dopamine and serotonin terminals and psychosis-like behaviours similar to those observed in MA abusers. The present study aimed to examine the effects of MA binge exposure on 5-HT2A receptors, the subtype of serotonin receptors putatively involved in psychosis. ICR male mice ...
متن کاملmA: A novel hallmark of translation
The discovery of N-methyladenosine (mA) in polyadenylated RNA can be traced back to the 1970s. However, the biological functions of mA in mammalian mRNA had remained mysterious for decades. This modification was brought back into the spotlight several years ago after the development of mA-seq and the elucidation of its enzyme system. Transcriptome-wide mA mapping has revealed asymmetric distrib...
